Mid-Collegiate Bridging

AIS 3001

Because the BTAS is for students who have already obtained associate’s degrees, the Mid-Collegiate Bridging course guided students to take necessary steps in preparation for entering a new stage in their academic and professional careers. Some notable projects from this course are the Career Project and Personality Paper, which were exercises that respectively fostered critical thinking about the duties of the jobs we would like to obtain and strengthened our awareness of how our personalities impact our experiences in our work environments.

During the career project, I redefined my interest in graphic design by focusing on an area of specialty: brand identity design. My paper speaks about the contexts that influence a brand designer’s processes, characterizes their main objectives and approaches when working with clients, and detailed the kinds of deliverables they are responsible for producing. For this project, I also developed a diagram displaying the common stages of a design process. Lastly, the project includes a skills analysis of successful graphic designers from which I made connections to my personal strengths and weaknesses to guide my goal-setting and decisions when determining next steps for my personal development.

The Personality Paper assignment encouraged me to explore my personality type, especially by prompting me to consider what kind of environments are typically favorable to individuals with similar traits. After taking personality tests and researching how personality correlates to visual design outcomes, I concluded that my interest in graphic design is evident of a match between the skills required of the job and my natural abilities. I discovered that design processes require high degrees of openness and agreeableness, and that, for introverted individuals, the originality of creative ideas is enhanced by high degrees of neuroticism.
