AIS 3070
This course was designed to prepare students for typical writing tasks they will encounter while working in their fields. Some of the topics we discussed relevant to writing composition included discourse communities, rhetorical situation, genre activities, and addressing audiences.
A large portion of the course was dedicated to completion of a Personal Learning Plan (PLP), which was a large collection of work directed at the student’s discretion. The goal of the project was to gain practical experience with written communication by targeting the specific strategies required within the rhetorical situations the student is likely to encounter in their future work environments.
For my PLP, I constructed a brand identity design situation. After researching responsibilities of design roles, I wanted to practice written communication from the perspective of working for a design agency/studio. While also developing design assets, I practiced writing pitches, memos, internal correspondence, progress reports, and artist statements.
I took this as an opportunity to build my design portfolio while also keeping in mind the kind of communication that would be expected of an individual working in a design role for an agency. Here I will share my final design deliverable, which is a wordmark logo for a writing assistant app. If you would like to learn more about the written artifacts produced during during the project’s process, you may visit my portfolio for the Applied Professional Writing course and view “Artifacts” 1-7.
